Google ads

Tuesday July 5, 2005 - Permanent link to this post -

I've put some Google Adsense ads on this site. I'm sorry if they spoil your experience here, but I could do with a bit of cash towards the hosting and I'm not quite cheeky enough to do a Mientjes so it seemed like the sensible option.

I might be playing around with the placement of the ads so if you find they're getting in your way or offending you at all, please let me know. Also, any tips you might have for optomising revenue whilst minimising obtrusiveness will be greatfully received.

In the meantime, be sure to click on some links pay no undue attention to the links, as outlined in the AdSense Terms of Service.

Peter, I know exactly how you feel – I have a personal blog that I’m considering doing the same with. It’s not nice, but someone’s got to pay the bills!

On that issue, in FireFox, if I hover around the article title, the ghost of an adsense block appears. I think this is stylesheet related, but not completely sure.

Ah I dont think your suppose to tell us that!, Anyway I’ve been doing some reading on the placement et etc

Problogger has some handy tips, well worth a few minutes of your time.

Gerard: I belive that was a Firefox bug and has been fixed in the latest Deer Park builds.

@Tom – Thanks, that’s a good link. And thanks for giving me the heads up on my breaking the AdSense Terms of Service (naughty me). Oh, and thanks for solving Gerard’s problem. I couldn’t replicate it.

Hm… What’s this hostile smell in the air here? Hm. Right.

I’ve resorted to placing ads on my site again after a short stint without them,

Like most of us here I’m not about to make large amounts of money any time soon, but I’m happy to have a small ad break on my site between the article and the comments in exchange for a cheque from google every now and then.

The ads are pretty unintrusive if like yours they are sensibly placed and nicely styled.

    Doesn’t bother me a bit. :)
