Spammers - Even their mothers don't love 'em

Sunday May 22, 2005 - Permanent link to this post -

I've been getting a lot of spam at my work's email address recently. Normally I'd just bin it immediately, but something about the emails stood out. Ever wondered what drives people to send annoying marketing emails for cock-stiffening drugs, refillable ink cartridges, websites to be produced in under three minutes and phony bank details verification? I think I know the answer.

The reason for their anger at the world, I believe, is a lack of affection from a maternal figure. How do I know this? Just look at what some of these poor children were named. Here's a list of some of the highlights that have graced my inbox in the last week:

  • Clammie Knox
  • Hipolito Lozamo
  • Erdmann Weems
  • Ptelomy Mock
  • Gitta Weiner
  • Gwenevere Grissom
  • Avishag Shackleford
  • and Balony U. Dido

With names like these, they were bound to have been bullied at school. Now they're just getting their own back at the world.

Have you had any funny-named spammers hit you recently? Do you know who makes these things up? Have I offended you because you share a name with one of the folk listed above and it's actually a very normal name in your country? If you were to be a spammer, what name would you choose for yourself?
