Big head (r)evolution

Wednesday April 27, 2005 - Permanent link to this post -

I'm really digging this trend that seems to be emerging in recent blog designs. Big headings with big bold link colours. Background colours highlighting <em> text. Even single column layouts. I did try a single column layout for a while on this site, about four redesigns ago. It wasn't properly thought through and it didn't work out. The ones I've seen recently seem to have been really well thought out.

I wonder if this is the beginning of a revolution in blog design, or rather an evolution of blog design, in the same way that blogs have evolved into their current form (in the most part two column layouts with the content in the left column). I think it could be.

So here's a sample of the the blogs I'm talking about:

  • garretdimon.com
  • Signal vs. Noise
  • plasticbag.org

Oh, by the way, my Reboot redesign will not be single column or have great big bold headings. It will be a bog standard, tried and tested blog design. I wish I was more innovative. I'll bet there'll be a few in the Reboot that are though.

Well it’s not entirely true, but one could also call it degeneration…

It’s different, which is healthy :)

I just made my own semi one column layout. I call it one2two.

@Sebastian: I suppose it could very well be looked at as degradation. But not by me because I’m digging it.

@Joakim: I like it Joakim. Very nice indeed. I especially like the link to me at the bottom. First class.

Glad you liked it! What am I if I don’t give people who entertain me some bytes of my bandwidth :p

How’s the whole baby thing going by the way? Anything (out of the ordinary) popped out of the missus yet? (Yeah, I peeked in your about page earlier)

Whoops. Need to update my About page.

I like the designs that are coming about these days. I have seen a few single column layouts I really dig. I myself have just put a new design (again) and I am using the background color highlighting for links. I like the feel of it.

Not sure if it is a revolution, but it is a nice trend right now none the less.
