I told you so

Thursday February 10, 2005 - Permanent link to this post -

I've written before about the madness that consumes IKEA shoppers. That place is evil, I tell you (apart from the breakfasts , of course). The BBC (and other news outlets) reported today that at the midnight opening of their new flagship UK store, 25 bargain-hunters were hurt in the crush

“People became agitated and eventually they started trying to charge the doors.”

Ian Burlinson, of north London, said he was thrown to the ground as people surged forward and had to be rescued by a passer-by.

Apparently, shoppers also had similar parking concerns to myself:

Bargain-hunters even abandoned their cars on the A406 north circular causing severe traffic problems, the Met said.

And all this was at midnight! On a Wednesday! Not a bank holiday weekend or even a Sunday. All that for tea-lights and a cheap settee.
